Navigating the workspace

Every is built around a persistent sidebar, a top bar that follows you everywhere, and a tab system that keeps your open tasks at hand. Here's the lay of the land.

The sidebar

The sidebar is your map of the workspace, top to bottom:

  • Dashboard takes you home.
  • Tasks expands into your personal views, each appearing only when there's something in it: Assigned To Me, Needs My Input (with a red badge when tasks await your decision), Created By Me, Drafts (amber badge), and Snoozed. When everything's handled you'll see a satisfying "All clear".
  • Favourites shows the clients, projects, retainers, and departments you've pinned, grouped by type, so your day-to-day items are one click away.
  • Manage holds the shared structure: Clients, Projects, Retainers, Departments, and Reports.
  • At the bottom: Documentation (that's this site), Automations, and Administration, plus your profile with links to Settings and log out.

The top bar

Left to right:

  • New Task creates a task from anywhere. It's context-aware: if you're viewing a client, project, or department, the new task is pre-filled with it.
  • The active timer appears while you're tracking time, as a badge showing the task number and a live clock (green and pulsing while running). Click it to Stop Timer or Open Task. There's only ever one timer running at a time.
  • The search icon, or better, its keyboard shortcut. See below.
  • The notification bell, with an unread count.

Press Cmd+K (or Ctrl+K) anywhere to search. It matches against task titles, task numbers, job numbers, client names, and project names, and returns the 50 most recently updated results with their status, priority, assignees, and due date at a glance.

If you know a task's reference, typing it ("GO-6") is the fastest route in the app.

The dashboard

Your home page assembles the day's context:

  • Weekly timesheet (if you track time): hours logged against your weekly target, with compact and detailed views and a Log Time button.
  • Assigned To Me: your open tasks with status and overdue counts.
  • Needs My Input: tasks waiting on you specifically, grouped by what kind of input they need.
  • Recent Activity: what's been happening across the workspace, with an Everyone / Mine toggle.

Workspace tabs

Opening a task or retainer doesn't navigate you away, it opens a tab in the bar under the header. That means you can keep half a dozen tasks open while you bounce between them and the board, and nothing gets lost:

  • Tabs persist across sessions. Close the browser, come back tomorrow, and your open tasks are still there.
  • Close a tab with its ×, or middle-click it.
  • The button at the left of the tab bar takes you back to the last non-tab page you were on (your board, a report, the dashboard).

Comments you're mid-way through writing survive tab switches too.

Notifications

The bell lights up when something needs your attention: you're assigned a task, @-mentioned in a comment or description, a due date changes, an estimate is requested from you or submitted to you, a priority is raised, or an automation acts on your behalf.

Click a notification to mark it read, or use Mark all read / Clear all in the dropdown. Every can also badge the browser tab so you catch things while you're elsewhere.

Make it yours

  • Appearance: choose Light, Dark, or System under Settings → Appearance.
  • Favourites: pin the clients, projects, and retainers you touch daily and they'll sit in the sidebar's Favourites section.
  • Profile: name, avatar, and timezone live under Settings → Profile.
