Documents
Every client, project, and retainer has a Documents tab: a home for the strategy doc, the signed SOW, the Figma file, and everything else that belongs to the work rather than to a single task.
Three kinds of document
Open the New menu on any Documents tab:
- Write a document: a full markdown document written and edited inside Every. Paste images straight into the editor, and every save is kept in history.
- Link a URL: paste the address and optionally name it (leave the title blank and Every uses the site's name). Links to known tools like Figma, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms get their proper icons; everything else shows the site's favicon.
- Upload a file: PDFs, spreadsheets, images, whatever you need, up to 50 MB each. Files get type-specific icons, and images show a thumbnail.
Every document row tells you what it is at a glance, and each written document has its own URL, so you can paste a link to "the 2026 strategy" into a comment or chat and it opens exactly there.
Categories
Group documents into categories like "Strategy" or "Contracts". Create them from the New menu or the + in the left rail, and pick an icon so they're recognisable at a distance. Then:
- Click a category in the rail to filter to it, or All documents to see everything.
- Drag and drop rows between category sections, onto a category in the rail, or out to the uncategorised list.
- On a written document's page, click the Category field in the sidebar to move it.
On a client's Documents tab, the rail also lists the client's projects and retainers that hold documents of their own, one click from their tabs.
Editing and history
Opening a written document shows a clean read-only view first; press Edit to change it. Every content change is kept in the History card:
- Click a version to read it, and Restore this version to bring it back. The content you're replacing is kept too, so restoring never loses anything.
- Rapid saves within a few minutes count as one version, so a burst of edits doesn't flood the history.
- The last 25 versions are kept per document, and rows show who edited last, not just who created it.
Previews and downloads
Click a file to preview it without leaving the page: images, PDFs, and text files all render in-app, including code and config files like .js, .php, and .yaml. Arrow keys step between the files in the current view. Anything can be downloaded from the row's menu.
Search
The search box covers titles for every kind of document, and for written documents it searches the content too, so "payment terms" finds the contract doc even if the phrase isn't in its name.
Who can see what
Documents inherit the access of the thing they're attached to: if you can see the client, you can see (and manage) its documents, and a private client's documents stay hidden with it. Retainer documents additionally follow the retainer permissions, so people without retainer access won't see them, even from the client page.
